The method

An infused oil is not a diluted essential oil

This confusion costs brands money. An essential oil is the distilled volatile fraction of a plant, sold neat and used at fractions of a percent. An infused oil is the whole plant's oil-soluble constituents drawn out into a fatty carrier over hours or days — a different chemistry, a different concentration and a different regulatory position on a label.

The classical Ayurvedic taila is made by simmering a herbal decoction with the base oil until all the water has driven off, which takes patience and produces a genuinely different material from a cold maceration. We make both, and we tell you which method a given product uses, because the method changes the actives, the colour, the odour and the shelf life.

  • Classical taila process — decoction plus base oil, reduced until water-free
  • Cold and warm maceration where the botanical is heat-sensitive
  • Any base oil — sesame, coconut, almond, jojoba, sunflower, rice bran, MCT
  • Herb-to-oil ratio declared so you know what you are actually buying
  • Filtered to your clarity requirement , from traditional cloudy to polish-filtered

Frequently asked

Questions buyers ask about this range

An essential oil is the distilled volatile aromatic fraction of a plant, used at fractions of a percent. An infused oil is a fatty carrier in which plant material has been macerated so its oil-soluble constituents transfer across — it is used as the product itself, not as an additive. They are chemically different, priced differently, and are not substitutes for one another.

A preparation in which a herbal decoction is simmered together with a base oil until all the water has evaporated, leaving the water-soluble and oil-soluble constituents in the oil. It is slower and lower yielding than cold maceration and produces a materially different product. We make both and state which method a given item uses.

Yes, and you should — it changes skin feel, absorption, odour, price and the claims your label can carry. Sesame is the classical Ayurvedic base; coconut and almond suit hair and baby care; jojoba and MCT suit premium facial products with a light finish.

Ask for the herb-to-oil ratio and the method. Two products with the same classical name can differ by a factor of five in actual herb loading, and price differences that look like a bargain are usually a lower ratio. We declare ours on every specification.

Anhydrous oils generally do not, because there is no free water to support microbial growth — but they do need an antioxidant system to control rancidity. Where a formulation carries any water phase, a preservative system becomes necessary and we will specify one appropriate to your market's rules.

Twenty-five kilograms for bulk and 1,000 units for filled retail packs. Development samples come first and take 7–10 working days.
