The method
Why steam distillation is still the standard
Steam is passed through the plant material at low pressure; the volatile aromatic compounds travel with it, condense, and separate from the water by density. Nothing is added and no solvent touches the botanical, which is why steam-distilled oil is the grade that food, pharmaceutical and certified organic buyers specify by default.
The variables that decide quality are all upstream of the still: which cultivar, harvested at what stage, how long between field and distillation, and how patiently the run is taken. A rushed distillation gives a higher yield and a thinner oil, and a GC-MS profile shows it immediately.

Frequently asked
Questions buyers ask about this range
Steam distillation uses steam to carry volatile aromatic compounds out of the plant, then condenses and separates them — it suits leaves, flowers, wood, roots and seeds. Cold pressing mechanically expresses oil from a fruit peel or a seed with no heat, and is used for citrus peel oils and for the fatty carrier oils. The two produce chemically different products and are not interchangeable in a formulation.
Not unless you ask us to. Our natural oils are 100% single-botanical and undiluted, and the specification sheet states that. We also supply diluted blends, nature-identical oils and fragrance compounds, but those are quoted and labelled as what they are. We will never supply a compounded oil against an order for a natural one.
Ask for the GC-MS profile and read it against a reference for that botanical. We supply the profile with the quotation for in-stock material and hold retained samples so you can send them to a laboratory of your choosing. Any supplier reluctant to do both is telling you something.
One kilogram for trials on most single oils and 25 kg for contract pricing. Bulk ships in 25 kg or 30 kg HDPE jerricans, or 180 kg to 200 kg drums, with aluminium bottles for light-sensitive and citrus materials. Rare oils such as rose otto, sandalwood and agarwood are quoted by the available lot.
Yes. We hold IP, BP and USP grades across a defined list of oils, supplied against the monograph specification with the corresponding analysis. Tell us which pharmacopoeia and which edition you are working to, because the limits differ.
Those are our three focus export markets, with partner offices in France, New Zealand and Australia. We supply the documentation your import file needs — COA, MSDS, Certificate of Origin, allergen declaration and, for organic material, the certificate of inspection. Indicative sea freight is 25–35 days to EU ports and 18–28 days to AU and NZ ports.
